The cobbler’s kids have no shoes. Every design agency has a version of this problem, and ours showed up as flat website traffic growth for way too long.
We spend our days building high-performing websites for biotech and SaaS companies. We know the playbook cold: consistent content creates compounding traffic, case studies pull meaningful visitors, services pages need to convert, not just exist.
For a stretch, our own site was sitting still while we were heads-down on client work. The irony wasn’t lost on us. So we pulled our GA4 data across two six-month windows and ran on our own website, wizardly.co, through the same analysis we’d give a client.
What the website traffic growth numbers showed
Before we invested in marketing: 700 page views a month, 258 unique users. Not embarrassing for a boutique agency. But nowhere close to what we knew was possible.
After a focused push (LinkedIn content, blog posts, case study promotion) the numbers moved fast. Page views hit 2,619 per month. Unique users jumped to 1,574. That’s a 274% increase in traffic and a 510% increase in unique visitors.
The growth didn’t land on the homepage. It went exactly where it needed to go. Services page views up 415%. Resources up 524%. Portfolio up 201%. These are the pages where someone decides whether to contact us. Traffic flowing there means the right people are finding us and actually evaluating whether to hire us.
The single case study that changed everything
The XtalPi case study went from 21 views per month to 1,112. That’s 53x. One piece of content, promoted consistently, pulling visitors who are already interested in exactly what we do.
That’s the same playbook we build for clients. It holds for us too. The difference is we weren’t promoting it before, and once we did, it became the single highest-performing page on the site.
The gap we’re still closing
We don’t cherry-pick. Our form submissions aren’t being tracked yet. We can see the inquiry page getting more traffic with stronger engagement, from 29 seconds to 50 seconds, but we can’t close the loop on actual conversions yet. That’s the same gap we call out in client reports, and we’re fixing it now.
Blog engagement is shallow. Most posts average 2-4 seconds; social traffic scanning, not reading. Case study promotion is uneven. XtalPi has 1,112 views; Alloy had 1. The model works when we execute it consistently. We’re being honest about where we haven’t.
The lesson isn’t complicated. Consistent marketing beats sporadic effort every time. It works on our site the same way it works on yours.
